Swivels in recline but stops rocking once it is reclining. The motion is smooth and silent. It is firm yet comfortable- you will not sink into it. I am very very pleased with this purchase. It is off gassing at the moment which is to be expected. I like the material- not shiny or cheap looking and for me I prefer leather but would fret about it too much instead of just enjoying it. Armrests are soft on the elbows.
